The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia Federation Square
, Melbourne, Victoria
The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is the first gallery dedicated entirely to the finest works of both indigenous and non-indigenous Australian artists from all periods featuring the most comprehensive display of Australian art in all media. The three level 13,000sqm gallery represents a declaration of the ‘coming of age’ of Australian art. As the national repository of Australian art, the Centre has been designed to the highest standards.
It has visual and physical links to Federation Square’s Civic Plaza and Atrium spaces while maintaining its own identity at the eastern end of the site. Dynamic displays rotate regularly to widen the viewing of the Centre’s vast collection.
The Centre acknowledges the importance of contemporary art and how it reflects the society of the day by dedicating more than 3,000sqm of exhibition space to modern and contemporary art.
