Rockpool Bar & Grill
Sydney
The brief for Rockpool Bar and Grill Sydney called for the transformation of the ground and 1st floor levels of the heritage listed Art Deco City Mutual Building into a fine dining restaurant.Bates Smart’s design response makes deliberate reference to its Melbourne counterpart, but is unique and distinctly different; it not only responds to the fine dining ethos but also celebrates the grandeur of the space. Bates Smart composed interior treatments largely for the floors and furnishings in order to not compete with the magnificent central space which has ceiling heights in excess of 11 metres.
Throughout the restaurant, materials in this almost entirely black palette include stained oak, marble, mild steel and leather. All furnishings, decorative light fittings, joinery and carpets have been custom designed for Rockpool Bar & Grill Sydney.
Over the past three years Bates Smart has worked on the creation and evolution of the Rockpool group of restaurants.
