Bondi, Sydney
After 35 years as the social headquarters of Sydney’s Jewish community Bondi’s Hakoah Club is to be redeveloped to provide a mix of residential, hotel accommodation and retail tenancies.
The mixed use development amalgamates four sites with dual street frontage. Bates Smart’s design aims to reduce the impact of the existing site on the surrounding area by setting the mass back from the street. The streetscape has been carefully considered to provide an infill that reflects the height, building rhythm and masonry buildings of Hall Street with the residential levels setback and floating above. In addition the building has been designed to incorporate the identity of Bondi with its art deco buildings and coloured streetscapes.
A through-site link increases permeability in the area by aligning with Chambers Avenue and creating a retail hub for the Hall Street Village precinct.
