Baker IDI
The Alfred Centre Stage 2, Prahran, Melbourne
The Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute is the nation’s premier health and medical research institute tackling the trio of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The merge institute, know as the Baker IDI fills a void in health and medical research by allowing traditionally disparate groups to work together and collaborate under one umbrella and one organisational culture. The Baker Institute’s location at The Alfred, has for many years facilitated numerous world class outcomes through clinical trials with real clinical outcomes. The Institute relocated to the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) in 2001. In 2007, the new combined Baker IDI Heart Institute was formed with the view to co-location at The Alfred. The Baker ID occupies 2,600sqm within Level 4 of The Alfred Centre Stage 2.
The new facilities include specialised clinical research spaces such as a metabolic gym, clinical consulting rooms, a PC2 wet laboratory, dry research, administration, management and staff social spaces. A range of multi modal education and seminar room spaces are distributed throughout the tenancy blending clinical research platforms with patient care and support services.
Our workplace design team has analysed current and future business strategies for the Institute and have explored the relationship between patients, staff, carers and researches to arrive at a balance between shared and personal space, a fostering of team environments and the opportunity to create a great place to work.
