The University of Western Sydney is a leading international university which is to develop a new School of Medicine in the Greater Western Sydney area assisting in:
  • improving local regional health services
  • building a greater medical community
  • creating critical mass to attract a broader range of specialists

Commissioned to compile the Functional Brief and to participate in the subsequent design competition, facilities include:
  • dedicated and generic wet and dry teaching and research laboratories
  • mock clinical teaching spaces and seminar spaces
  • PBL rooms
  • anatomy museum and library

  • administration and shared support facilities

Laboratory facilities include:
  • Teaching: open plan generic laboratory modules for Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Microbiology.
  • Specialist Teaching:
  • Anatomy – computer based pod arrangement with plasticised model display and anatomy museum
  • Histology/Pathology – computer based pod arrangement with separate microscope bench.
  • Research: suites incorporating 100sqm flexible laboratory pod, support facilities including freezer room, tissue culture room, bacterial culture room, equipment room and chemical store as well as open plan workstation area and offices.

The resulting analysis identified future directions, and the key strategies for planning detailed design and documentation of the facility.
