Jim is an architect with 30 years experience and is a Director of Bates Smart. He has wide experience across most building types including commercial building and fitout, health and aged care, education, and residential architecture. In recent years, he has been the director responsible for the delivery of many significant Bates Smart designs, including Freshwater Place, CBW, The Alfred Centre, Crown 3rd Hotel and Media House. He specialises in the function driven technique of ‘design from the inside out’, an approach which adds considerable value to combined building/fitout design. Jim was responsible for the establishment and management of the Bates Smart Sydney office in 1995, prior to returning to Melbourne in 2000.
